HOC August Challenge

AUGUST 2015
Word Cue Challenge

The August HOC Challenge was such fun!  I've not done much with metallisc so this card took some experimenting and playing.  I put aluminum foil on cardstock and used an  embossing folder by Darice.  I could not get my Distress Inks or chalk inks to stick so to the foil so I hunted around my craft room and found Dazzling Metallics Elegant Finish (gold paint) and put that on and it stayed! Then I was able to I dabb Distress and Chalk inks all over until I was happy with the look.  I die cut Happy Birthday from poppystamps.com,  stars from amuse, embossed the stars and put
paint on them as I did the foil.  I thought this made a rather elegant male birthday card.  I always enjoy new techniques.

I hope you will play along with this months challenge at House of Cards
and enjoy seeing the new designs and tutorials by the talented
design team each week at: House of Cards.

House of Cards July Challenge

It's time for a new challenge at House of Cards:

Use a food image and/or Colors

fresh cut color

I just had to combine both, the colors were fabulous and I had this sweet little
bear with a luscious looking ice cream cone from Darcie's Heart and Home that
had not seen ink yet!  I colored with   Copics, used some Copic blender fluid on a washcloth to texture the bear,  then put some Glossy Accents on the Cherry and
sprinkles.  Next I made a starburst background with imaginisce Hello Cupcake
papers. Then a few embellishments from my stash.
Below is a close-up so you can see the details.

We have several new design team members so you will want to check out their creations!

House of Cards May Challenge: Bokeh technique

This month starts a new challenge at House of Cards! This month our challenge is: To create a card with Bokeh effect.  Bokeh is a term that comes from the Japanese word "boke" (prounounced bo-keh) which means fuzziness or dizziness.  This effect creates a soft dreamy effect and is often used in photography to add an airy effect, dimension, and the imagery of scattered lights.

I decided to make a shaker card( Butterfly Die by Design Studio) but to leave plenty of my Bokeh background showing as this technique is so stunning  you do not need much else.  I also did a second card and simply die cut "Blessings" and added 3 sequins to let the background be the focus.

I hope you will give it a try and join our challenge at House of Cards after being inspired by the design team.

I just looked at all the design teams posts and there are several tutorial on the "Bokeh technique" and the most amazing cards so be sure to check them out at House of Cards, follow the links or come back each Monday to see new cards displayed.

House of Cards April Challenge

APRIL 2015
Add a Butterfly &/or Color Challenge

This months challenge for House of Cards is Add a Butterfly &/or Color Challenge.  As you can see above I went with the Butterfly theme.  I have been playing with a stash of alcohol ink papers I had stashed away from years ago and this is what I came up with.  I pulled out my Memory Box die and cut 3 Butterflies into the background, cut out a Happy Birthday with a Poppy Stamps die to match my background.  I punched a couple butterfly corners for interest and got carried away with the gems from my stash. Below is a close up:

I hope you will join in the challenge at House of Cards and come back each Monday to see more creations from my fellow design team members on display!

Thanks for visiting!

Sketch Saturday, Sophie

This is my final week as guest designer at Sketch Saturday. It has been a fun month, amazing sketches and wonder sponsors, thanks to Sketch Saturday for the invite!  I am a regular participant so will continue playing along as usual. I hope you will join Sketch Saturday this month for a change to win a prize from out wonderful sponsor The Paper Shelter.

I chose this adorable image from The Paper Shelter: Sophie In The Country and choose to use the precolored digi as she was so adorable and I thought she just needed to be showed off. Isn't she adorable?  I fussy cut her and mounted her on Amuse's sky cardstock and added grass cut with an Amuse die cut and use my scallop circle die.  Patterned paper is Nana's Kids and I like that it has sparkles in it, I also fussy cut a few of the flowers from the paper for embellishing. Happy Birthday stamp is Morning Star and cut from Labels 4.

Glass of Wine

Welcome to week 3 at Sketch Saturday, this month is just flying by.  This is my third week as guest designer at Sketch Saturday and I got to use this fun image: glass of wine and the accompanying saying from our sponsor Bugaboo. Below is a close up.

And the fun saying that comes with this dig:

I used double sided patterned paper from Heritage called stripe that I bought on a recent trip to Kimswick a cute little historic town in Missouri that has one of the few remaining stamp stores in the area.  Copics: B95-97 and blender for jeans, G8-94 and blender for blouse,  Y28 and Sakura Jelly Roll pen for glass stem. For the wine I used  water color pens, I layered in this order and not solid, kinda a loose scribble: 705 red, 710 pink, 706 purple and an unlabeled lighter pink, then I darkened the edges with the purple and blended - this was the best color combo I (actually my hubby and I) could come up with to look realistic).

Thanks for taking the time to visit, I hope will check out the fabulous creations of the design team and join in with the fun at Sketch Saturday for a change to win some Bugaboo images!

House of Cards March Challenge

MARCH 2015
Use Enamel Dots

What a fun challenge as I had never used enamel dots before.  Lilian, one of many talented design team members has shared a video on how to make enamel dots and it looks so easy, be sure to check this out, Toni and Dana will also be posting video's on the 11th and 18th, and also go to House of Cards and join our fun challenge!

I immediately thought of flowers when I saw enamel dots so I picked a pack up at Micheal's (before learning how easy they are to make).  I pulled out my new basket die by Impression Obsession, my Sizziz/Hero Arts Stamp and Die set, and this is my card!  So much fun and I've been using enamel dots on lots of cards since, such a quick, easy embellishment that adds so much to a card!  Hope you join us at House of Cards for this fun challenge!

House of Cards February Challenge

It is time for the February House of Cards Challenge with the theme of LOVE.  How perfect for the month of Valentines day.  I hope you will join the challenge!

This stamp set is from Sparkle and Sprinkle and I thought it would be just adorable for the Love theme and for my husbands Valentines Day card. Easel cards are one of my favorites so first I made my base 11x 4 1/4 "(scored at 5 1/2 and 8 1/4"), and 5 1/4 by 4 1/4".

Next out came the Copics: Y000,G12&94 E13, R20&22, and then B000,12&1, for the water.  For the water, first I laid down my blender pen, then the blues and used the blender pen after to get the soft water look. Then the free, yes free glitter Sparkle and Sprinkle sent with my stamps(Orchid Rose sparkles) on the hearts, red tinsel embossing powder on the word love (masked from a saying set I had). Washi tape works great for masking. Other supplies: Die cut: Spellbinders Scallop Circles, ribbon from Michaels, K&Co. paper.
To see the fabulous creations of the rest of the design team and to join the challenge go to House of Cards.
