Repeat Impressions: Pick of the Week

It is my week to share a POTW - Pick of the Week at The House That

I got a set of Polychromo pencils two Christmas's ago and I decided
it was time to watch some video's and put in some practice with them.
So today I am sharing my practice card step by step and the tips
I learned from the video's and along the way.  I have to say they
are much easier to work with than the first few times I played
with them.  I will be reaching for them more often.  They
do take more time than Copics but are worth it and it is very
relaxing.

You will need an image stamp of your choice, preferably one with
a lot of lines in it to guide you for shading.  I used Repeat Impressions
Nap Time Fairy and Happy Hello. It is best to use paper with a bit of
roughness to it.

Stamp your main image in a light color, not black. You will want to use
a stamping tool as we will be stamping over it again and want exact
placement:

Gather the colors for your first area to color, you will want 3 shades for
each color, along with a white and a gray.  Start by laying down the white where
you want the lightest areas, then go from lightest to darkest of your colors.
You want to use circular motions and very light pressure with a well
sharpened pencil.  You use light pressure as you will keep adding
layers.  This blends the layers together and gets a nice smooth effect:

After you have added the white and your 3 colors you can add more white
for highlight and then use the gray, sparingly to add shadows:

When complete, use embossing body generously as you have gotten oils
from your hands on the card:

Stamp image with Versamark ink and emboss in gold, this makes such a
difference:

I added a mask and some stenciling to add some interest to my card.

Finish as desired:

If you have been debating Polychromo pencils  or already use them,I hope this
tutorial gave you some helpful tips.

Have a wonderful day!

Leaf twofer

This is my second post today, please scroll down to see the Minions.

I barely made it in time for Darnell's twofer challenge this month.  I am
glad I came up with ideas today and had some time to craft!

I started with white card stock and using purple tape masked off strips
and with blender brushes blended stripes of color, overlapping some
of the rows.  I splattered some green ink and die cut and attached
a leaf die that has been in my stash and only used once before.

For my second card I die cut the leaf out of foam and used it as a stamp. I
finished the card with a hello die with a vellum layer underneath.

Happy Birthday Minions

My oldest son's birthday was this past week and he shares our love of
Minions so I made the above card for him.  The minions started with the
Stampin Up owl punch.  The ballons were cut form a snippet I had
left from a background with Color Bursts.

We will be celebrating this weekend!

The House That Stamps Built: Theme as a Highlight

This week at The House That Stamps Built Wendy wants us to highlight a sentiment as
the focal point of our card.  This was a difficult choice as she has so many
fabulous sentiments.  I finally decided on one of my favorites:

I layered some patterned paper on white card stock and then embossed them
together for interest.  I stamped Just Because in navy ink and then in
VersaMark ink and embossed in clear embossing powder, and did the same
with Dragonfly Sil. (sm). Added some navy layers and ribbon and left it
at that.

If you would like to join our weekly challenge, you might just
be the lucky winner of the monthly drawing for the
$25 Repeat Impression's  gift certificate. you don't have to use
Repeat Impression stamps but an extra chance if you do.

Some anemone's from IO that I stamped and made cards with recently:

\My mom and I finally had a day out shopping at a local craft store and
she bought this stamp set and some other goodies as a belated  b-day
present for me, so this first card, colored with Copics was sent to her:

The second card I colored on the stamp with watercolor markers, misted the
stamp and stamped the image.  I like this card but the one above is my favorite.
Mom was very happy to receive it!

Wishing you a crafty weekend and thanks for visiting!

The House That Stamps Built: Signs of Spring

Signs of spring are everywhere so that is our theme this week at The House!

 My card:

To me the first signs of spring are tulips and daffodils, I wanted a nice
sunny looking card so I went with Repeat Impressions  Daffodils today! I stamped
my image with my go to black VersaClaire  ink and embossed with clear embossing
powder, colored with Copics, cut a few layers using a Daily Bread die set.  The yellow
needed somethingso I used white pigment ink and stenciled a lacey stencil on it,
it is very faint but in real life it adds to the card.

Lantern card

It has been a long time since I made a lantern card so when I saw this
as the challenge at Mrs. A's Butterfly challenge I had to play along. Her
directions are so easy to follow!  This will be one of my granddaughters
birthday cards.  I have a birthday sentiment on the lattice at the bottom, and
birthday and other sendtiments stamped on other squares.  I also included
flowers and of course butterflies.
